Full Landscaping and Artificial Turf Putting Green in the Woods.

This landscaping and artificial turf putting green project is was a turf-rific success!

Hey there! Premium Lawn & Landscapes teamed up with some homeowners in the Mt. Rose foothills to create a fun and functional front yard that looks great and includes a cool 5-hole putting green. If you know the Galena Forest area in South Reno, you’ll notice it’s all about those steep hills, tall pine trees, and impressive granite boulders. Tucked away among these beautiful hills are custom neighborhoods like Montreux, Galena Forest Estates, and St. James’s Village. The stunning scenery here is hard to beat, and the owners wanted to make sure our design blended in perfectly with the natural landscape. When we first checked out the property, it was clear we’d need to build a few retaining walls for a workable front yard. We even grabbed some natural boulders from the property itself to help our landscaping fit right in. Using these local materials not only looked great but saved the owners some cash too!

Quality always takes a strong foundation

Once we got the boulder retaining walls constructed and safely in place, we had to meticulously prepare everything required for the installation of the artificial turf. It’s incredibly important to ensure that we maintain a smooth and clean surface so that the ball rolls nicely without encountering any unexpected bumps or irregularities. Additionally, we carefully pop in metal golf cups that are set in cement to keep them sturdy. This method not only ensures their stability but also provides protection from the harsh winter weather conditions we experience here in the Reno Tahoe area, where snow and ice can impact outdoor play. Proper preparation is key to guaranteeing an optimal playing surface for all enthusiasts.

Fake Grass, Real Fun - Master Your Putt!

We use top-notch turf that can really handle the tough winters here in Northern Nevada. But there are a few things to consider when you’re thinking about putting in an artificial turf putting green, like the outside temperature. We typically use two different types of turf for a putting green. First up is our low nap putting turf, which makes the ball roll just like on real grass. Then there’s the taller fringe turf that goes around the edges and blends into the rest of your yard. Since we can’t stake down the putting turf without it being visible, we actually glue the edge of the putting turf to the fringe turf on a base material underneath. Here’s the deal: to get that glue to set properly, the outside temp has to be at least 50ºF. So if you’re thinking about getting a putting green, think spring or summer when it’s warm enough. We wrapped this project up in July without any hiccups. After we do some trimming and securing, the last step is to add sand. We go with a special fine silica sand that fills in nicely. This sand is super fine and helps weigh down the turf to keep it in place. Once we sprinkle it on and brush it in, we’re all set!

We completely understand that the final touches on a project can sometimes take a considerable amount of time to perfect.
